Prescription Process
MDC Pharmacy takes pride in providing a higher level of service than other specialty and mail-order pharmacies. Below are a few details of the prescription process that we would like you to be familiar with.
Insurance Coverage
Our dedicated and experienced Insurance Analysts will review your insurance coverage and help determine what benefits you have in order to determine the best treatment/medication regimen that meets both your health and financial criteria. This is a process we take very seriously, as drug selection is the basis of ensuring we provide accessible and affordable treatment plans.
Financial Assistance
We have a dedicated Financial Assistance specialist that will seek eligibility for copay cards, grants, and/or free medication(s). While we will make every effort to identify and secure resources, there is no guarantee that we will be able to obtain enough financial assistance to cover all of the potential charges related to your care. You are responsible for remaining co-payments. For your convenience, we accept cash, checks, and most major credit/debit cards. Payment is expected at the time of service.
Medication Counseling
Once the medication is approved and payment has been received, a clinical pharmacist will contact you regarding medication counseling and help coordinate pick up. Usually prescriptions can be picked up immediately after your doctor visit and treatments will be scheduled as soon as possible. Personalized medication counseling will include the benefits of taking the medication prescribed by your MDC provider, proper instruction for medication(s) administration, side effect management, and instructions regarding how to report adverse drug reactions to our clinical pharmacists, if needed.
Adverse Reactions
To report adverse drug reactions, please call the pharmacy at (318)-239-4860 ext. 325 and ask for the pharmacist in charge.
Disposal of Medications
If you have medication that is no longer needed, please follow any specific disposal instructions on the drug label or patient information that accompanies the medication. Do not flush prescription drugs down the toilet unless this information specifically instructs you to do so. When in doubt about proper disposal, please reach out to us. Please take advantage of community drug take-back programs by contacting your city or county government for more info.
For instructions on how to properly dispose of any unused/expired medication, patients are advised to contact our pharmacy or visit the FDA website for more information: https://www.fda.gov/consumers/consumer-updates/where-and-how-dispose-unused-medicines
Placing an Order:
MDC Pharmacy allows patients to place an order for medication by merely calling the pharmacy at (318)-239-4860 ext. 325.
Refill:
For medication refills, contact the MDC Pharmacy at 318-239-4860 ext. 325. Patients must have the prescription number (located on the bottle) to request a refill. For refills, we will make every effort to call you to set up pickup before your medication runs out. If we are not able to contact you after three (3) attempts, we will notify your MDC provider. To prevent unnecessary delays in your treatment, please contact us at least five (5) days before your medication supply runs out.
Status Check:
For medication status, contact MDC Pharmacy staff at 318-239-4860 ext. 325 Prescription Substitutions: Prescription substitution occurs when the insurance company prefers generic drugs over the brand name drugs (typically, due to reduced prices or insurance coverage). If a substitution is preferred, the insurance company will notify the pharmacy staff before the prescription is filled, and we will inform the patient of any change requests.
Transfer a script:
If patients want to transfer their prescriptions to and from MDC Pharmacy, they are advised to contact the pharmacy staff and provide them with their desired pharmacy's name and phone number.
Medication during Emergencies/ Disaster:
In case of any unforeseen emergencies or disasters, including fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, or a community evacuation, our goal is to continue pharmacy services to our patients. In the event of an emergency, patients are advised to contact pharmacy staff to ensure they have adequate supply during the emergency state duration.
Recalls:
MDC Pharmacy stays abreast of all recalls that could impact its patients. In the event of a drug recall, pharmacy staff will reach out to patients who are affected.
Access to Medications:
Having access to a medication when patients switch their insurance, prescription networks change plans, or the pharmacy is out of stock is vital to MDC Pharmacy. It can involve transferring the patient's prescription to the covered network or finding alternative treatment therapies under their plan. MDC pharmacy staff remains committed to helping patients evaluate their options, so there are no treatment gaps.
